Academic Accommodation

Leighton University provides academic support services to qualified students with disabilities. Academic Accommodations are similar to an IEP or 504 plan you may have had in high school and often include testing accommodations and other course-related activities/components.

Note that accommodations are not provided until approved and are not retroactive. Do not hesitate to reach out to our office well before the accommodation is needed. For example, if you start classes for a particular Term (6-Week or 8-Week), you should plan to begin the request process at least 21 days before the first day of that specific Term. NOTE: There is no deadline to request academic accommodations, and we will be happy to work with you at any time, but we encourage students to plan to avoid delays and/or gain approval from day 1 of the course.

How to request academic accommodations

  1. Please notify us of your accommodation needs by completing the Student Registration Form
  2. Schedule a meeting (in person or virtual) with our staff: Request an appointment
  3. Submit documentation from a qualified provider by email or regular mail.  More specifics about the type of documentation can be found under this link.  Submit your documentation by email, fax, mail, or in-person to the Office of Accessibility Services. See contact information on this page.
  4. Conference/meet with our staff to discuss your experiences and, if approved, develop an accommodation plan.
  5. Students with approved accommodations complete a Letter of Accommodation Request for each Term.  It is acceptable for up to three contiguous Terms.
  6. Students distribute Letters of Accommodation to notify course professors of approved accommodations.
