Transfer Policy

Transfer Credit Policy

It is important to know how your credits will transfer and apply to your degree requirements. This page outlines important Leighton University policies, including the transferability of credits and the evaluation of credit for students completing their first degree.

Course grades you received on your “old” transfer credits will not count toward your GPA at Leighton. Transfer course will reflect a grade earned at your previous institution that range between A and C. However, the only GPA recorded on the student’s permanent record is that which you earn at Leighton University. Additionally, there are limits to the number of semester hours that may transfer from regionally accredited four-year colleges.

      • A maximum of 45 credit hours of transfer work may be applied to an Associates Degree.
      • A maximum of 90 semester hours of transfer work may be credited toward the 120 hour degree requirement.
      • Credit is allowed only for courses with a grade of “C-” or higher.
      • If a course is not in a discipline that Leighton University offers, it will be evaluated individually and may transfer as elective credit.
      • Courses with a “C-” or better are transferred. Both the hours (credits) earned and the course itself will usually transfer. The grade does not transfer.
      • Developmental courses do not transfer credit. Other criteria for matriculated students regarding transferring credit from other institutions is available in the University catalog.
