Withdrawal from the University
Students who wish to withdraw from the University must do so through the Academic Success Center. in consultation with the school that houses the major. The last day to withdraw from the University is listed on the University's Academic Calendar. Once the withdrawal request form is processed, this is an irreversible action.
Withdrawal from Leighton University does not necessarily indicate a clearance of financial or other obligations. All obligations to the University must be met regardless of withdrawal status. Refunds, if any, are made according to the University's refund schedule published in the catalog and the University's website, based on the date of withdrawal. Leaving the University without filing a formal withdrawal notice will result in failing grades in all courses for which the student is registered. Withdrawing from a course is not the same as withdrawing from university. Similarly, stopping your participation is not the same as withdrawing from a course.
Withdrawal Impact on Tuition & Fees
Adjustments to tuition and some fees are made for students who officially withdraw from the University during the first ten days of classes in the full-term. Students will be assessed $100.00 or 5% of full tuition (whichever is lower) and reimbursed for the remainder. No refund in tuition will be given after the above listed periods. Tuition charges are not adjusted if classes are dropped after the last day to add/drop classes via Populi System. The last day to add/drop via Populi Web is the last day to add a class. See the Academic Calendar
Withdrawal Impact on Course Grade
Withdrawing by the last day to withdraw without receiving a grade results in a grade of W on the student record, which does not calculate in the GPA. Withdrawing after that date, but by the last day to completely withdraw from the university, results in a grade of WP or WF. WP grades do not affect GPA, but WF grades do calculate into the GPA, the same as a grade of F. The withdrawal dates and deadlines are published in the Academic Calendar.
Mandated Withdrawal Resulting from Non-Attendance
Each instructor determines the attendance policy for his or her class. If you fail to attend the first week of classes (or equivalent number of business days) and have not confirmed absences with your instructor in advance, you may be required to drop the course.
If your instructor mandates that you drop the course, you must start the official withdrawal process, via the Office of the Registrar. If you choose not to drop after being asked to do so, you will earn a failing grade (WF). If you've been asked to leave a class due to non-attendance, you must pay all course tuition and fees accumulated at the time of your withdrawal or the entire cost of the course, should you fail to withdraw.
Student Responsibility
With the exception of administrative withdrawals, if you do not officially drop a course, you will receive a failing grade (WF). If you stop attending a course, you will remain enrolled in it unless you officially drop it through the Office of the Registrar. If you drop a course after the end of the sixth week of the Term, you must get the instructor's approval – and his or her signature on a Drop/Add Form – to complete the withdrawal process. The Office of the Registrar will process withdrawal requests without these required approvals, and as a result, you will earn a failing (WF) grade for the course. You are also responsible for paying all tuition and charges related to the course.
