Enrollment Policy
Graduate students are required to maintain an active status through continuous enrollment from the time of first enrollment until graduation. Continuous enrollment is satisfied when graduate students register for a minimum of 3 graduate credit hours in a one term among three contiguous terms (each semester has two 8-Weeks terms and three 6-Weeks terms) until graduation. Contiguous terms include the Summer Terms.
Leave of Absence
A Leave of Absence (LOA) is a temporary cessation of study and may be granted for up to two (2) years for medical reasons and other emergencies. A Leave of Absence (LOA) allows graduate students in good academic standing to postpone their studies for a definite period of time, normally not to exceed two (2) years in the event of unavoidable circumstances (e.g., documented medical reasons, active military duty, etc.). Supporting documentation must be submitted with the LOA form. A letter of support from the Dean of the appropriate academic School may be included. All LOAs are reviewed and granted on a case-by-case basis. Financial hardship is not an approved LOA.
A graduate student who intends to request a LOA will submit to the School of Graduate Studies must first request and obtain a signature on the LOA form from the Dean office/program coordinator. The School of Graduate Studies must receive the LOA prior to the first classes for the Term for which the LOA is requested. A leave of absence will not be granted retroactively after the end of the Term/ Terms of Absence.
An approved Leave of Absence stands in lieu of registering for a minimum of 3 credit hours for each Term for which the leave of absence is granted. Students may not use Leighton's facilities, resources, or services designed or intended only for enrolled students or take any of Leighton's courses (undergraduate or graduate) during a leave of absence.
