Do colleges and universities really have the right to assign to me the areas of my expertise?
M any graduates find jobs that have nothing to do with what they studied in college.
According to the U.S. Department of Labor, the average twenty-something switches jobs once every three years and the average person changes career fields two or three times in their lifetime.
That's a good question! This is obvious upon reflection (after all, you are the expert and they are the novice)! Most college programs feature required courses that you must take, but you may find that those courses don’t relate to what you want to study or even what you want to do with your degree. The Liberal Studies major is best for those who really know what want and how much they want to study. At Leighton, you have that flexibility of customizing your degree and select what you want to study. One of the driving desires in favor of earning a liberal studies degree, for most people, is that it offers one the opportunity to pursue a variety of careers.
