Transfer Credits

Once a student has matriculated in a degree program at Leighton University, credit for courses from other universities may only be transferred and accepted at Leighton subject to the following conditions and restrictions.

Credit Conditions

Leighton University accepts transfer credit from two and four-year colleges and universities. A course that transfers in towards graduation must be comparable in academic quality to Leighton courses, have originated at an accredited institution, and have a recorded C or better grade. Credit or Pass grades will not be accepted in transfer.

Transfer credit must originate from courses taken at an accredited institution, and those courses must appear on the student's transcript from the originating institution. No transfer credit is awarded for courses that have been applied toward an earned baccalaureate degree.

You can transfer up to 45 credits toward an associate's or up to 70 credits toward a bachelor's from accredited two-year colleges or universities or from other combined sources (including credit by examination, military education, and training, or other fast paths to credit). You can transfer up to 90 credit hours towards a bachelor's degree program from a four-year college.

Current students are strongly urged to seek transfer approval from the Academic Advisement Center and the Office of the Registrar prior to enrollment in any course for which transfer approval might be sought. A form for this purpose may be obtained from the Office of the Registrar.
If a course is accepted for transfer credit, the grade from the originating institution will appear on Leighton's transcript; however, it shall be identified with “TR" (for transfer) in front of the grade and will be excluded in Leighton's GPA. A course transferred in as a repeat course may not be used to replace a grade earned in the original Leighton's course.

Transfer Credit Policy

Many students already have college/university credit when they come to Leighton University. When you apply, make sure you send to the Office of Admissions all your official transcripts. Once admitted, make an appointment with one of the Academic Navigators to make sure your courses meet Leighton University’s transfer requirements, and you get credit for the classes you’ve already taken.
