Leighton Credit Hour Policy

Leighton University is in compliance with the federal definition of credit hour. Courses offered at Leighton have been designed with the expectation that students will need to spend approximately 6 hours on course-related work per credit per week. For each credit hour, the University requires, at a minimum, the equivalent of three hours of student academic work each week. Mathematically, for a three credit hours course in a term of 8 weeks x 6 hours x 3 credits totals to 144 clock hours on course-related work. Academic work includes, but is not limited to, direct faculty instruction, laboratory work, field work, internships, and practica. Additional academic activities include, but are not limited to, readings, reflections, essays, reports, inquiry, problem solving, collaborations, and electronic interactions. Student work reflects intended learning outcomes established by the University and the profession and is verified through evidence of student achievement.
