CUIN 558 – Designing Interactive Multi-Media Instruction

CUIN 558  Designing Interactive Multi-Media Instructional – 3 hours credit: TThe course examines the systematics approach to developing media and visual communication in a less intimidating interactive manner. Students are offered multiple opportunities to experience and evaluate user-interface designs across multiple platforms, including web, video, graphic, animated sequences, print media, software applications, along entertainment options to determine their usability and effectiveness. Human-computer interaction, optimization and performance issues, content delivery, functionality, ease-of-use, design principles, and resources and tools are also examined. The course exposes student hands-on development opportunities that include scanning images, digitizing video, and audio, and exploring the design and production of interactive multimedia are the focus of this class.

Grading status: Letter grade.

Learner Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the course, the student will have acquired the knowledge and skills to:

  • Design instructional products utilizing the steps of the instructional design model.
  • Preparing and conducting a needs assessment, learner analysis, context analysis, and instructional analysis
  • Developing performance objectives, learning outcomes, assessment instruments, instructional strategies, instructional materials, and evaluation methods
  • Understand social and cultural factors that may impact assessment results.
  • Explain and interpret the results of procedures for assessing the psychometric properties of tests (i.e., reliability, validity analyses, item analyses)
  • Appropriately collect and organize all design notes via electronic journaling.
  • Conduct ongoing peer evaluation and provide constructive feedback to other instructional designs (both in progress and finalized) within his/her learning community and instructional design partner.
